Looking for just the facts?
Q: How can I get ahold of you to ask questions or set up a time to meet?
A: I can be reached via email at email@example.com or phone at 480-406-5028.
Q: What do you charge for doula services?
A: My fee for service is $500. I am working towards my DONA certification and currently offering discounted services in the amount of $300.
Q: What does your fee cover?
A: My fee covers a minimum of 2 visits in pregnancy (I prefer to meet moms who hire me early in pregnancy more than twice if possible), attendance at your birth and the immediate post partum, and a visit after baby is born. Included with these visits is assistance researching your options, help writing a birth plan if you so choose, review of comfort measures in labor, and access to a lending library of resources. In addition, when you hire me I am available by phone or email to answer your questions, discuss issues that come up in pregnancy, help you work through concerns or fears, etc.
Q: When is payment due?
A: If you choose to hire Born Doula Services, a 50% ($250) deposit is due at time time your contract is signed. The remainder must be paid to me by the 37th week of pregnancy. If you hire me after week 37, payment is due in full at contract signing.
Q: What if you can’t make it to my baby’s birth?
A: When you hire me as your doula, you are putting your faith and trust in me. I will be on-call 24/7 for the 2 weeks prior to and following your baby’s estimated due date. If your labor occurs before 38 weeks and I cannot make it, I will send a back-up doula in my place. The full payment for services will still be payable to me, but my back-up will be compensated by me for her time and work attending your birth.
Q: What areas do you serve?
A: I am based in Chandler, AZ. I accept clients in Chandler, Tempe, Mesa, Gilbert, Ahwatukee, Queen Creek, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, and parts of Phoenix. If you’re interested in hiring me but not sure if I accept clients in your area, please call or email me so we can discuss!
Q: What kinds of families do you serve?
A: My goal is to provide doula services to any expectant woman who desires a doula at her birth. Married. Dating. Single. Partnered. Planning an adoption. Surrogacy. Teen moms. First-time moms. Moms who want a homebirth. Moms who choose a birthing center or hospital. Moms trying for a VBAC. Moms planning a c-section.
I won’t be the perfect doula for every mom, so I strive to be everything needed by the moms who choose me. I accept clients from all backgrounds and all types of families, as long as you feel I am the right fit for you. And if I’m not the right fit, I will happily share the names of some other doulas who might be better able to serve you in your unique situation. This is YOUR pregnancy. YOUR body. YOUR birth.
Q: What if I cannot afford to pay $500 but would still like a doula at my baby’s birth?
A: I believe every birthing mother deserves a doula. If finances are a concern for you, please contact me and we can discuss your particular situation.
Q: What are the benefits of having a doula at my baby’s birth?
A: Doulas provide a variety of benefits to mom and her support team. DONA International, one of the primary licensing agencies for Doulas in North America, has this to say about the benefits:
Numerous clinical studies have found that a doula’s presence at birth
– tends to result in shorter labors with fewer complications
– reduces negative feelings about one’s childbirth experience
– reduces the need for pitocin (a labor-inducing drug), forceps or vacuum extraction and cesareans
– reduces the mother’s request for pain medication and/or epidurals
Research shows parents who receive support can:
– Feel more secure and cared for
– Are more successful in adapting to new family dynamics
– Have greater success with breastfeeding
– Have greater self-confidence
– Have less postpartum depression
– Have lower incidence of abuse
